Show Notes

Just days into the new school year, on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021, Kingdom Culture Conversations is releasing a "special", non-Monday podcast episode featuring an important conversation with Jason Ellis.  As part of the counseling team at Thrive Therapy Phoenix and a graduate of the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Fuller Seminary, he has spent the last thirty years working in youth ministry in Arizona and Oregon.  In his work with Thrive Therapy, Jason specializes in working with adolescents and is keenly aware of the pandemic-induced, mental health crisis unfolding with adolescents, emerging adults, couples and families.

A recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study of more than 5,400 American young adults age 18 and older revealed more than 60% reported feeling anxious and depressed.  The results – three times as high as the same time in the prior year – also include a reported increase in thoughts associated with self-harm and substance use.

In today's Kingdom Culture Conversation, Jason alerts parents to practical steps that they can take to engage their students and better understand how they are coping within a culture that is untethered from the assurances of God's word.  As a certified counselor who employs outdoor therapy, Jason also discusses the merits of slowing down and celebrating the marvels of God's creation as part of these engagements within your family.
